Talula's Daily

C and I have been meaning to check out the newly-opened Talula's Daily since October, but naturally, things got in the way and before we knew it, the fall semester was coming to an end. The good news is that foodies always find a way! hehe.

SIDENOTE: The lighting in the restaurant was pretty dim so it took a few shots and moving around of the candle before I was able to take decent pictures. C is the best and I did not even have to ask--he just worked that candle.

Talula's Daily is an interesting concept. It's a quaint place that is intimate in size and has half of its space allocated to Talula's 'market,' which operates as a deli/cafe from early morning to dinner time. The other half is a restaurant that consists of a prix fixe menu that changes monthly, so there's always a reason to return. Here is the December menu that C and I tried:
Little Blinis - gravlax, celeriac, horseradish
C claims this is just called "flower pot bread" (whatever) but I swear the server described it more elegantly as brioche bread in a flower pot.

Buttery, fluffy goodness
Winter chowder - salsify, cauliflower, wild bay scallop
Beef, Barley & Beer - tender short ribs, braised barley, pickled mushrooms, scott's hops
The main dish was so homey and the meat itself was extremely flavorful and tender. Delicious!
Farmstead cheese collection - honey, asian pears, walnuts, and ham
We loved the cheeseboard! It was fun exploring all the different flavors and pairings. Also, the server took a good 3 minutes to explain every single component on the board and its origin.
Dark chocolate slice - olive oil, salted citrus marshmallow
By the time dessert was served, we died and went to heaven. We both were speechless as we ate this candy-bar like dish. It was that good. I am a sucker for chocolate-with-sea salt-anything and this rich beauty was definitely the perfect end to our 'study break' dinner.
